30 Cent Sunshine

As the weather gets progressively warmer and clearer here, it's all I can do not to spend every possible moment in the sunshine. Romans like to argue that Rome is a city to be enjoyed by night, but that is only because they have been spoiled with sunshine. I and the rest of the students here from the states have been soaking up every ray we can. Cafés here generally charge you a little extra for outdoor tables, but it's been well worth my 30 cents to sit outside while I enjoy my morning coffee.

Other interesting things that happen when the weather gets warmer in Rome:

-street artist start to display their odd works, and sometime they pull you aside to tell you, in the most serious tone you've ever heard, that their bicycle was yellow

-chilling with only the company of a bottle of wine at national monuments after work is socially acceptable

-Roman couples have moved their make-out sessions from right in front of you on the metro to the exact spot in the park you wanted to sit

More to come

  1. Hi Kelly,
For your next outing away from Rome, save up your 30 cents and take the train to Pompeii. Spend the day exploring the ruins and history...if you have extra time, go for pizza in Naples. While you're there, you might as well go to Sorrento, one of my favorite places with olive and lemon groves all over the place. OR, from Rome, take a day trip to Assisi and spend the day on top of the hill touring the old church and eating at the very best tiny outdoor cafes. The pottery there is amazing, too! These trips will cost you a little more than 30 cents but will be well worth it.
    Love and miss you,
    Aunt Lynda
